Description

For the past two months, Purple has been publishing ‘This Week in Farcaster,’ a weekly roundup of everything happening in the Farcaster ecosystem.

This proposal funds production of This Week in Farcaster through Q2.

Specifically, this proposal funds the following editions of This Week in Farcaster:

  • April 1
  • April 8
  • April 15
  • April 22
  • April 29
  • May 6
  • May 13
  • May 20
  • (May 27 skipped for Memorial Day Weekend)
  • June 3
  • June 10
  • June 17
  • June 24

This proposal is setup to transfer the funds directly to davisshaver.eth (a.k.a. the proposal author), who has been producing the newsletter since it began earlier this year. The typical newsletter takes 3-4 hours of production time and does require a significant amount of cultural/technical context to write in a manner that is accessible and accurate to users of varying technical ability and background.

As part of this proposal, davisshaver.eth would commit to either producing the newsletter himself or using the funds to hire a freelance web3-knowledgable journalist/Farcaster user to do it. davisshaver.eth also commits to actively seeking this freelance help, with the goal of reducing the ‘bus factor’ for This Week in Farcaster, which currently depends on a single person. In the event that a freelancer is identified, davisshaver.eth would share details with the DAO, as well as inviting the freelancer to join Discord and providing ongoing support to the freelancer to help them be successful in the role.

As part of this proposal, davisshaver.eth commits to transparency with the DAO regarding how the newsletter is being produced, as well as its engagement metrics with the community (subscriber count, Google Analytics pageviews, etc). davisshaver.eth also commits to working with the DAO on any potential tip jar, sponsorships, or other funding streams to ensure that the revenue is used an appropriate way, e.g. underwriting additional coverage/journalism for This Week in Farcaster and not for self-gain.

As has been previously stated to the DAO, davisshaver.eth makes no ownership claims to This Week in Farcaster and believes it to be the DAO’s IP. However, davisshaver.eth does take full responsibility for ensuring the newsletter meets journalistic standards and would serve as de facto publisher of the newsletter even if a freelancer is identified for content production.

In the event that davisshaver.eth cannot fulfill the commitments due to illness, act of God, or other reason, the funds would be returned by davisshaver.eth to the DAO multisig on a pro-rated basis depending on the percentage of newsletters completed and published as per the proposal.
