Background

Regens are one of the 3 main subcultures of the ethereum / evm community (Degens, Cypherpunks and Regens) that Farcaster is built on.

However, while builders and degens are well represented, currently the regen community is massively underrepresented on the Farcaster protocol.

This proposal aims to address this by onboarding regens to make Farcaster a more vibrant space: adding a passionate, global group of regen builders and creators with a track record of building with web3.

Enabling this group to coordinate through the open, decentralized social graph and use distribution tools like Frames could lead to the emergence of a flourishing new ecosystem within the Farcaster protocol.

Context

Regens are looking for a place to convene online/onchain:

• Most regens are highly active online, onchain and IRL.

• Most regens use Twitter/X but it is increasingly unusable, so they are looking for alternatives.

• Most regens don’t see their community on Farcaster as many leading regen projects, communities and people aren’t active on the protocol as yet.

• Many regens see the ‘cost-of-entry’ to Farcaster/Warpcast as a significant barrier, especially as many are based in the global south.

• Many regens don’t understand what Farcaster is, especially the relationship between protocol and clients, or what it can offer them.

The /regen channel and regen.tips project has brought fresh attention to Farcaster for regens and has begun this onboarding process:

• Growing the movement: Since April 23rd the regen.tips project has actively deployed a strategy to grow the /regen channel from ~250 followers to more than 11,000.

• Building in public: already developed a viral meme, a points system for engagement, working on a unique regen reputation based tipping system, and a proof-of-regen score that is based on previous regen activity onchain

• Onboarding key stakeholders: actively onboarding key established “OG regens” who are making an effort to grow their following and bring their communities to Farcaster.

• IRL actions: experimenting with onchain <> IRL activities including a touching grass on weekend and a “Clean Up” campaign that attracted >180 onchain submissions

• Evangelizing Farcaster: to communities, projects and individuals through articles, 1-1 meetings, memes, twitter spaces, and more

• Self-driven: This work has been done without any external funding, purely for the benefit of the farcaster and regen communities.

Onboarding more regens to Farcaster is a potential win-win for all parties:

• Regens will leverage Farcaster to help develop further tools for social, technological and economic coordination aligned with the regen vision of ‘crypto for the greater good’.

• Farcaster will gain high quality DAUs and be able to expand its positioning from a hub for builders and degens, to a Schelling point for any builders, creators, projects, communities and users with social and environmental sensibilities.

• The overall community will grow richer and more diverse, addressing topics of public importance that appeal to demographics that are currently underrepresented on the protocol; in particular climate conscious younger generations (gen-z) and populations located in the global south.

Expected Benefits to the Farcaster ecosystem:

1. Quality Community Growth: Each of the 100 onboarded regens will not simply be a verified human but a high-value and proactive qDAU. These are individuals who work with passion and purpose, dreaming up imaginative solutions to make the world a better place. In addition each of these users will attract similar individuals, communities and projects.

2. Collaboration with Farcaster communities and adoption of tools: New regens will forge new partnerships with aligned communities growing public goods, and leverage tools developed within the farcaster ecosystem (e.g. /regen collaboration with /poidh) boosting protocol usage

3. Enhanced Community Value: Onboarding these users means Farcaster will include more individuals committed to regenerative activities. This would elevate the overall quality and scope of discussions / projects on Farcaster, as regens, builders and degens find opportunities to share knowledge and collaborate.

4. Increased onchain, online and IRL Farcaster related activity: The majority of the onboarded regens will be builders and creators who write code, make art, create impact and run events. These users will contribute to the Farcaster commons and leverage Farcaster as part of their projects, creating new case studies that highlight the virtues of Farcaster, and especially growing IRL actions.

5. Positive marketing for the Farcaster brand: Aligning with good causes, positive movements and regen individuals will add value to the image of Farcaster beyond simply being a place for builders or degens

6. Positions Farcaster as the hub for regen aligned activity onchain: Demonstrates to regen-aligned groups and organizations that Farcaster is the place to focus efforts vs. Lens or Twitter. This includes organizations like Gitcoin, Funding the Commons and Celo who are already in talks with the Regen project about deeper Farcaster integration.

Implementation Plan:

1. Identification and Verification: Selected regens will be identified through trusted community leaders and validated via onchain data like Gitcoin grant contributions.

2. Onboarding and Integration: Create an onboarding program within the /regen channel, introduce regens to Farcaster tools and culture, and facilitate networking with existing members (e.g. a group onboarding session with Farcaster power users).

3. Incentives and Rewards: The /regen and regen.tips core contributors are implementing incentive mechanics to engage regens and regen aligned people/projects; this has already generated significant traction in its first phase with more than 11k followers of the /regen channel, 15,000 overall signups to the regen.tips website, and markers of early impact including a surge of donations to giveth.io due to /regen.

Budget:

This proposal seeks 0.4 ETH ~1500 USD. This budget will:

• Sponsor the costs of bringing 100 new regens to Farcaster
• Contribute towards development costs of tools like a bot-resistant tipping system and proof-of-regen score that will provide a robust incentive system that any regen aligned initiative can leverage
• Onboard regens to ensure they understand how to use tools like frames/channels, engage with farcaster culture, and are supported in their initial steps through workshops and 1-1 sessions

Other Benefits

As a nounish, supporter of public goods, being a member of Purple DAO is included within the list of “proof-of-regen” actions (regardless of whether this proposal passes or not). This offers a boost for Regen points and future airdrops.
