TL;DR:

This proposal requests 0.25 ETH to support a community event in New York City, Onchain Summer Solstice. The event aims to showcase digital & local artists, and provide an opportunity for the Farcaster community in New York and local artists to connect over art. We have secured a residential rooftop for the event on June 21st, and will feature art installations, a barbecue and DJs. The organizing team is being led by @henry and co-hosted by FCNY @serendipity and @uncledavo.

Problem:

Both the New York and artist communities on Farcaster are growing rapidly, but there aren’t many events in New York focused on the budding art ecosystem on Farcaster, and connecting people through art. Many artists are curious about Farcaster, and many Farcaster users are interested in digital art - there’s an opportunity to bridge these interests and foster deeper connections.

Solution and impact:

The Onchain Summer Solstice event aims to create a relaxed environment with art and connection at the focus - highlighting digital and local artists with interactive installations, providing a small barbecue and showcasing local DJs. Our goals are to:

• Build Connections on Farcaster: Establish a welcoming environment where active casters, curious newcomers, and current users can connect and form relationships

• Showcase Digital Art on Farcaster: Utilize projections, posters, painting canvases, and informational materials about featured artists to help attendees explore the expanding digital art scene on Farcaster

• Promote Collaboration: Bring together local artists and the Farcaster community through collaborative art activities and conversation

• Subtly Educate: Use tools such as dice & a canvas to provide an insight into the history of generative art in an engaging and interactive way

Event Rundown:

This is a community-run event, held on an apartment rooftop in East Williamsburg and with ~100 attendees:

6pm - Sunset:

• Barbecue and light refreshments (event is also BYOB)
• Canvas showcasing the process of creating generative art, which will be minted after the event and distributed to all attendees
• Large open canvas for collaborative painting
• Physical plots of art handed to every attendee

Sunset - Late:

• Community artwork will be removed, creating space for sitting and chatting
• Four-hour audio-reactive projection show featuring 30 curated artists from the digital & local art ecosystem
• Local DJs, including from the newly formed DJ DAO

Farcaster users can RSVP via events.xyz; this method of RSVPing is token-gated - we’ve released a generative art piece on Highlight, with all proceeds going towards the event.

Budget:

We are requesting 0.25 ETH, which will go towards:

• Catering: To provide food and refreshments for attendees
• Audio-Visual Equipment: For the projection show and sound system
• Art Installations: Materials and equipment for showcasing and creating art
• Event Security: To ensure the safety and smooth operation of the event

Current funding has been raised from community contributions through a Generative Art piece, minted as an NFT and conversations are ongoing with other potential sponsors. We are organizing this as a public good, and will not be paying ourselves for our time or involvement in the event.

The multisig members have agreed to approve/deny reimbursements for the event.
