hello!
We are the team behind Sellout, a protocol and platformed designed to produce sold out shows for musicians. We deployed the protocol on Zora Network from this address at the end of Backdrop Build v4 one month ago and were one of the finalists! You can watch a demo of an early version of the product here.
In short, users with nomination credits can nominate (Artists, Curators, and Venues) to be apart of the Sellout Registry. Any registered Curator can propose a show between one or more registered artists at any desired location (and radius from that location). The Curator defines the splits of revenue between venues, curator and artists, the desired total capacity, the sellout threshold (percentage of total capacity the show is considered sold out), ticket prices, tiers and currency up front and proposes the show onchain!
If users of the platform find the show interesting they can buy a ticket to this dream(ed) show, fully refundable until the sellout threshold is met and the show sells out. Once the show sells out, venues within the radius of the desired location can propose dates and times to host the show. The aritsts and curtors then vote and unanimously decide on the date and the time -- the show happens, and everyone is paid out based on the splits set up in the beginning!
You can right click on our logo to see the contracts that compose the protocol.
The platform has beed designed to be a social place where users can listen to their artists favorite music, mint their albums, earn from minted or playlisted albums on their profile (thanks to Zora Protocol), and explore propose shows around them and around the world! We are in early days, having just onboarded our first venue and our first few artists, and are slowly rolling out the platform to our circle of musicians in New York and around the world where we have friends (São Paulo, Syndey, Berlin, Seattle, Oakland, New Jersey, LA to start).
After a successful show, 5% of the total revenue is split amongst Sellout (the company) and Sellout (the dao), which is a Dao we deployed on builder, found here! Currently 4% is sent to our protocol wallet and 1% goes to the DAO (over time we hope too flip this allocation)
Building the protocol and platform has been a labor of love of taayyohh so far, having been the sole engineer to write the protocol, indexer, subgraph, metadata service, ipfs service, and front end. And fun fact, taayyohh was the first front end engineer on the Nouns Builder project, and built this very transaction builder we are using to submit the proposal.
We want to govern our protocol using Builders infrastructure, but we want to do so natively in our application so we are planning to write an sdk, hooks, and front end components to essentially rewrite a lot of what exists here at nouns.build, but in a modular way that any developer can use. And so comes our ask!
We are looking for 20 ETH to accomplish a few goals that can be broken up into two categories: Builder specific Goals:
Sellout specific Goals:
Because the catalogue of music are Zora 1155NFTs we are able to use Zora rewards to reward various participants in our ecosytem. Our DAO will earn the creator and referral reward for music minted on our /music page or in our sites global navigation. Users will earn the mint refferer reward for music minted from their profile or playlists.
We have recently onboarded our second engineer shiranian (ex Amazon, ex Nike) who will help taayyohh with the engineering efforts. And heading our venue, curator, artist outreach is our Head of Community 13th Law who is a BRILLIANT musician, organizer and has thrown over 200 shows.
We have requested the funds get sent to our DAOs treasury, where we will then make proposals to pay out shiranian, 13th Law, and any others who will help us achieve these goals.
Ultimately, we are very bullish on Builder's infrastructure as something that can help form a communal treasury for the musicians around us, and we hope the open source tooling we would deliver for the Builder community would be worth the 20 ETH ask!
